'A Sublime Illusion' is the debut collaborative EP from Philadelphia artists Cal Blac and ZONE Drums. After a series of performances in 2023, this collection represents their first effort in writing music together.

Setting up a makeshift studio inside a quiet home in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, the two musicians engaged in a spontaneous creative process resulting in the composition and recording of three songs over a three-day span. Created in the spirit of exploration, these recordings blur boundaries to create a sonic landscape encompassing disparate genres such as jazz fusion, drum and bass, and psychedelic rock. Both musicians' parts were recorded live and without quantization, a feature worth noting for music that could be classified as electronic.

Built on a foundation of grimy synthesized bass lines and intricate drum patterns, 'A Sublime Illusion' wastes no time in thrusting the listener into a thrilling and unpredictable journey from the first moment.
